Too much Rocky Horror Participation? Is it like this everywhere?

So I went to a RHPS midnight screening. It was my first time seeing it live and I had high hopes. Yeah I'm not gonna drone on but when I got there it was a ******* mad house. I knew it was going to be crazy but I didn't think it was going to be that bad. haha The movie started and I was glad to see everybody was getting into it. But after a few minutes I noticed that the audience was saying a line after EVERY ******* WORD IN THE MOVIE! I couldn't hear or really pay attention to the movie so I left. So I wanted to ask if anyone thinks if its too much participation. And does this happen everywhere? I'd really like to enjoy my favorite movie with a shadow cast without so many disturbances.
