Cartilage piercing - swelling and pain?

I got my ear cartilage pierced 3 and a half days ago - 2 studs next to each other. It didn't really hurt at all until this morning and it is now very slightly swollen around the area as well as red and a little sore. I do not think I have an infection and know that in forcing two metal spikes through a part of my body that is biologically disposed to resist puncture I am bound to experience some initial discomfort. I have been doing sea salt soaks morning and evening. Is this swelling normal and are there other steps i should take to promote healing?
